Don’t Want It Anymore? Resilience as a Shield Against Social Media-Induced Overloads

Social media have become part of millions users’ everyday life, leading to the proliferation daily stressors associated with them, particularly social media-induced overloads. Therefore, understanding individual characteristics that enable users resist such stress factors and ultimately buffer negative follow-up effects, as exhaustion discontinuance behavior, is important for researchers practitioners. Grounded in psychological resilience theory, we examine if a user’s (one’s ability bounce back) has power mitigate effects this critical chain influence by inhibiting stressors. Structural equation modelling on survey data from 194 network confirms decreases perceived information overload. We also find self-efficacy protective factor resilience. Therein, short paper raises awareness resilience’s function shield against adverse provides comprehensive outlook future research.
